All-aboard Platform 18 at The Century Grand, where guests are invited into a Presidential Pullman-inspired train car for a simulated 90-minute journey through the Rocky Mountains!
This bar is in a long room designed to resemble a luxury railroad cabin from a century ago. Thanks to strategically spaced TVs playing synchronized footage of a passing snowy landscape, you feel like you’re in motion, actually winding through the Rocky Mountains. The cocktails made on the “train” are among the most progressive and celebrated in Arizona.
The cocktail menu is tailored to adventurous drinkers with lofty cocktail standards. Century Grand uses all kinds of outlandish ingredients in cocktails, like smoked tea and kefir. One cocktail that conjures flavors of a peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwich comes with a sleeve of Campari cotton candy. Bartenders use a wide range of spirits, liqueurs, and fortified wines. Flavors are carefully considered and often balanced on a tightrope!
I thought we’d give this bar a try while Bob and Cheryl were in town! It took Best Bar in the U.S. last year!
Century Grand has three different themed bars inside. Platform 18, which is a Train -station themed bar serving drinks from the Prohibition era. Grey Hen, which is an Apothecary-inspired Bar. And, UnderTow, a Nautical Tiki Bar.
The drinks were amazing and really, really strong! You definitely didn’t need a second drink during the 90-minute “Train Ride”. It was really fun!
