Mannheim Steamroller

This year instead of going to see Cirque du Soleil, which isn’t coming to Phoenix anytime in the near future, I chose tickets to Mannheim Steamroller as my Christmas gift to Joe.

Totally have to give this a mixed review!  I really like their music, but…  the graphics on the screen behind them totally distracted from the production!  They were sooooo dated!  Right out of the early 70’s!  The beginnings of ‘Intrepretive Ballet’ from several decades ago, and modern dance right out of what they were teaching as ‘new’ at the time when I was back at EMU doing graduate work!

Although Chip Davis wasn’t in our tour company, (they have a Red Company and a Green Company), he came on screen during breaks to promote their merchandise.  Kind of corny in my opinion!!  And the second half, which was all Christmas music that they are known for had some kind of Renaissance-type ‘dinner party’ video behind it on screen that was so busy that I totally lost the music!  It would have been so much better to just use the lighting with the music and drop the video on screen!  Their music was great and all their musicians played several instruments!!

But, it was a fun evening just the same.  We had dinner at Texas Roadhouse before the show and the food was great!
