Donna and I left Phoenix about 9:00 a.m. arriving in Rocky Point about 12:30-ish. It was an easy drive. We went in through the Lukeville border crossing.
We’re staying at Las Palmas in Grande-701 which we booked through VRBO. We have a great view of the ocean! Went ot the beach for a little while and then headed into El Malecon. The city is interesting! Probably wouldn’t go down there alone after dark!! 🙂 We had dinner overlooking the water at Marisco’s El Malecon. The food was pretty bland, We had our hopes set on some good seafood, but didn’t find it here! We wanted to head back to the hotel before sunset as we weren’t totally sure about driving back in total darkness! Found out Mexico has NO streetlights!

Got to the beach by 7:00 a.m. That was low tide and wanted to walk along the beach to look for shells and crabs! Watched the sun rise! It was soooo pretty! Stopped and talked to a guy (John Watters) on the beach that had two condos. He lived in one and rented out the other. They are both at the Princessa. We’ll take a look at the website and see if renting through him directly would work out better than paying VRBO or Airbnb fees!
B.E.A.C.H. – Best Escape Anyone Can Have!
Went back to the room for a while and decided to make today a total beach day and do some of exploring tomorrow! Packed a lunch and some drinks and went back down to the water for about four hours! I got a henna tattoo from some guy on the beach! It was a feather with birds flying up from it. It was supposed to last 3 weeks, but had mostly worn off by the end of the day! Bummer!!
We saw dolphins in the distance and these HUGE schools of tiny fish! I thought it was seaweed coming in but turned out to be millions of fish! The pelicans were swooping down to scoop them up and the gulls were getting them from the shore side. At one point all these little silver fish were washed up on shore and flipping around in the sand! The gulls were going crazy catching them!
Went in the water and swam for a short while! Seemed cold at first, but once in, it was great!
Went to Wrecked at the Reef for Dinner! My new favorite place! Sat right out on the beach and had a couple drinks and split some appetizers as the sun set!
Went back to the hotel and sat in the hot tub for a while!

Started the day with a walk along the beach at sunrise. Soooo pretty… Picked up shells and rocks! With tide at its lowest point at sunrise we can walk so far out!
Got back and went to breakfast at Wrecked at the Reef! Love that place! Sat on the sand as close to the water as we could! After breakfast we walked to the end of the Reef/Jetty!
We went to find a grocery store. I wanted to pick up a couple bags of dog food to take to Barb’s Dog Rescue tomorrow on the way out of town. We found before we left Phoenix that some of Halo Animal Rescue’s dogs come from there!
Also explored Cholla Bay area.
Came back and hit the beach for a few hours! the water seemed colder today but I went in anyway! How many chances do I get to play in the ocean!? Still so much warmer than the California beaches!
Went back to the room, cleaned up and went to an early dinner at Banditos! AWESOME FOOD! Chips/Salsa…Split a Shrimp Cocktail and then split an order of “Street Tacos”… There were four of them and even splitting that I was soooo full! Great food and a great Mango Margarita!!
Decided to go out and sit on the pool deck overlooking the beach once we got back tonight. The sunset was gorgeous!
Tomorrow our plan is to walk the beach at sunrise and then hang here for a little while. We’ll check out around 10:30-ish… go back to Wrecked at the Reef for an early lunch; swing back in the direction of the hotel and pick up some fresh fish and shrimp to take home and then stop at Barb’s Dog Rescue on the way out of town!
Room with a View! We never closed the patio sliding door!

Walked the beach at sunrise finding all sorts of strange treasures!
Went to Wrecked at the Reef for an early lunch and then swung by the fish market to pick up some fresh fish and shrimp to take home. He even cleaned the shrimp for us!
After that we headed out so we could get to Barb’s Dog Rescue by 1:00 p.m. as they close at 2:oo!
Then we’ll hit the road for Phoenix!
Photos from around the resort...
This has been such an awesome trip! Fun and relaxing! Everyone we talked with was so helpful and friendly. The hotel staff was great! I’m not sure if it’s because next week is Thanksgiving or just the fact that kids are back in school, but the resort and the beaches were totally empty! It was a perfect week to do this trip! The weather was mid-70’s all week and seemed like almost zero humidity!
Donna and I had a blast!
Other Recommended places to try next time: Kaffee Haus for great Apple Strudel/Breakfasts. (On the way to El Malecon). Pollo Lucas; Candy Cake; Manny Beach Club (On the sand seating!)
