Grand Canyon with Luna

I decided to do a quick overnight trip to the Grand Canyon to see how Luna would do in a hotel!  And happy to say, she did AWESOME!!  I thought she would be real clingy and afraid of being left, but she just strode right in and made herself at home on the bed!

We stayed at the Ramada Inn in Williams which is about 50 minutes this side of the Canyon.   So coming in we just drove directly to the Grand Canyon to spend as much of the day there as we could!

I’ve read that the Grand Canyon in the 2nd most ‘Dog Friendly’ National Park in the US.  They allowed dogs on any trail that was NOT below the canyon rim.  We walked the Rim Trail which stretches from the South Kaibab Trailhead west to Hermits Rest, 14 miles!  Nope… we sure didn’t do all of it!  Most of the trail is paved and there is no real elevation change.  It takes you away from Grand Canyon Village, so away from the bulk of the people!  But really, it wasn’t as crowded as I thought it would be!

Headed back to the Ramada Inn in Williams for the night!  Luna was hysterical with her first elevator ride to the second floor!  She ‘leaped’ about 2 feet in the air over the crack in the floor going from the hall into the elevator !  But she didn’t seem to mind the elevator ride at all!

The next morning we decided to go explore Williams and Route 66!  It’s such a quaint little town and I’m pretty sure she got tired of posing for my photos, but…ya know… whe ended up living with a photographer!  I guess that well be her cross to bear!

After playing around Williams for a while we decided to head back to Phoenix.  I’m not sure there was anything more to see at the Grand Canyon that I could do with Luna other than what we had a chance to do the day before!  It was an awesome trip!

The Rest of the Story...

Got home and both Luna and I took a nap for about an hour and a half.  Got up and went out to unload the car only to realize that I LEFT MY SUITCASE AT THE HOTEL IN WILLIAMS!!!

I called the hotel and they said they had it at the front desk.  So, Luna and I turned around and drove 3.5 hours back to Williams… picked up the suitcase and headed another 3.5 hours back home!  YIKES!  Got home about 12:30 am!

They told me they could ship the suitcase back to me, but I knew that my iPad and my Nikon were in the suitcase and I didn’t want to take the chance of it disappearing!  Lucky for me, everything was still in the bag, so other than about 7 wasted hours on the road (and some gas money), nothing much as lost!  DUH!!!
