Hip Replacement – v 2.0!

Well, it was finally time to do the right hip!  The discomfort had been getting worse and making it way harder to do the stuff I actually retired to do!  Like… walking, hiking, getting up and down from the couch, etc!

It’s been since May 13, 2021 since the last hip, so I wasn’t as anxious about the procedure this time!  Dr. Kaper did this hip as well, as he TOTALLY ROCKS! As does all of his staff!  He was very upfront about no two surgeries being exactly the same even though it was the same procedure on the same person and he was definitely right!  This one didn’t seem quite as pain-free as the last one, but it sure wasn’t bad!

Donna picked me up from the Out-Patient Surgery center when I was done and I was home by 1:00 pm!  Surgery was at 7:00 am!

This was my view of the world for the first few days, but got up and walked around and did stuff every hour as that was what they suggested!  I LOVED the Compression things they sent home to prevent DVT’s!  It was like having my own personal massage therapist!

And other than totally passing out on Day 2 post-op and landing on the surgical hip on the tile floor, recovery was really smooth!  Oops!  So glad that implant was in there securely!  Emily (N.P.) said it was probably an electrolyte imbalance so to drink Gatorade!  INSTANT TURN-AROUND! YAY!  No more passing out!

I ditched the walker at the one-week mark and started walking around slowly!  After Donna took me to the (13-day) post-op follow-up we went out to eat and then to Barnes and Noble to walk around.  It felt great!

I’m sooo happy to have this in the rear-view mirror and so looking forward to going into 2024 being able to be active again!  I’m so not meant to be a slug!
